As driven young women trying to create our ideal lives, we tend to overstretch ourselves on a daily basis. We put way too much on our plates because we think we can handle it, and then nothing ever ends up producing the results we desire. And it’s frustrating…because our intentions are good, yet we can only physically do so much. There are just 24 hours in a day, and so it’s extremely important to make them count. Although it may seem damn near impossible to get something done when you’re being pulled in a million different directions, if you set yourself up for success, a positive outcome is actually very achievable. Want to know how to truly tackle your goals head on and continue to do so for years to come? Start using these techniques, commit to practicing them every day, and see instant results.
1. Eliminate Distractions
Distractions are the #1 way that your time gets sucked up, and sometimes we don’t even realize it’s happening. That’s what makes it even worse. If you KNOW you’re the type of person who needs to be alone to complete a task or get something done effectively, take yourself to a place (both physically and mentally) where you’ll be the MOST productive. That may mean leaving the home you share with your roommates or boyfriend, putting your phone on ‘do not disturb,’ and finding a quiet place where you can crank shit out. I know I always have to set my phone face down when I need to get in the zone, because my #1 time sucking distraction is when my phone lights up and I feel like I need to immediately respond/check my notifications. I also know I can’t work in public places because 1) I’m a huge people watcher and 2) I know a ton of people in this city…so casual/catch-up conversations are bound to happen. Therefore, my ass stays at home in my big reading chair with my phone put away when I need to get stuff done :)
2. Time Block
I used to think time blocking was way too neurotic for me, yet once I started to implement it, I found that it’s actually HUGELY HELPFUL. Some people can break it down on a daily level, but I personally prefer weekly time blocking because of all the different jobs I do that don’t always occur every day. Mapping out your day or your week allows you to visibly see what you need to accomplish and it lets you know EXACTLY when you need to do it. It’s like your own personal accountability partner. You can time block either in your planner or through an online calendar...I do both :)
3. Daily Check-in
One thing I committed to in 2017 was reflecting on the choices I made each day to make sure they were aligning with my core value desires I learned in Bethany B Yoga Lifestyle’s program. So, I created a chart and wrote down everything the ‘best version of myself’ would do each day, and every evening I color in the chart if I actually did it. Then, at the end of the month I can see how I lived up to my own expectations. It’s very eye-opening and extremely useful! So many of us just go through the motions and think we’re doing just fine, but when we sit down and actually focus on how we’d like to live our lives, we realize that it is vastly different than the one we’re living now. Having a daily check-in helps us get really purposeful about the choices we’re making and helps us get that much closer to our goals.
4. Bullet Journal
IF YOU HAVEN’T HEARD OF BULLET JOURNALING YET, PLEASE WATCH THIS VIDEO! I have been bitching about not being able to find my perfect planner for YEARS, and it never really occurred to me that I could make my own. 5. Set Alarms/Reminders
There is nothing that will keep you in check more than an alarm going off on your phone reminding you to plan your marketing, prep your meals for the week, or do that research you’ve been putting off. Yes, it can be slightly annoying…and I always want to throw my phone across the room when an alarm goes off at 3:30pm on a Sunday…but just think of it as that tiny voice inside your head telling you to get up off your butt and be productive :)
