One year ago, Albert and I moved into our very first home outside of downtown Charleston, SC where we both attended college. It was a major life event for me, as this home signified something much bigger than simply moving in with my boyfriend...it was the final piece in establishing a new life in a new city. It meant that everything I had sought out to accomplish by leaving West Virginia had all fallen into place. It meant I had found somewhere that made me happy enough to plant roots and settle down. I won't lie, sometimes I shed a little happy tear when I pull into my driveway because I can't believe I get to live in this beautiful home with this wonderful man in this amazing city. Okay, I promise the sappy part is over :) Let's get on to the tour!
Most of you know me as the 'voice' of Tori Talks...a writer and coffee addict navigating through adulthood who loves to dish out advice to you lovely readers along the way! What you may not know is that my day job is in luxury real estate, and that my interior design obsession is fierce. I spend my days marketing gorgeous, high-end homes...so naturally that makes me even more obsessed with how I choose to decorate my own.
And, while I can pretend to live a lavish life at work, my bank account begs to differ the minute I walk out the door. That's why I've had to get super savvy about what to buy and where to spend when finding the perfect pieces for my home!
It's not extravagant by any means, nor is it something that you'd see featured on mydomaine, but it's mine...and to me, that makes it more perfect than any million dollar home along The Battery or celebrity penthouse.
I hope you enjoy the tour :)
I'm just going to start out and be 100% honest that I had no idea what the f*ck I was doing when I picked out the paint colors for our home. Everyone warned me that you should choose two shades lighter than what you really want it to look like, but I was so set on a bright and cheery gold/yellow that I just wouldn't listen. I definitely had a minor panic attack when we started painting, but I think the muted-colored furniture ended up bringing it all together. If there's any place you can get away with bright colors on your walls, it's Charleston, SC :) amiright?
Meet Goose the Moose, also known as "Monkey" :) We adopted this little guy in July 2016 when he was 6 months old, and he is the cutest, cuddliest little ball of energy you'll ever meet. His hobbies include being adorable, drinking bath water, stealing q-tips and hair ties, getting nightly rubs before bedtime, and cooing like a pigeon.
Everyone, this is Buddy Bear :) Albert and I adopted Buddy after we moved into my 700 sqft. apartment together in 2015. We reeeeally wanted a dog, but didn't have the time, money, or space. So, one Saturday we decided to check out Pet Helpers to see if we could find a super cool cat to bring home, and that's when we found this big ball of fluff. Buddy is 6-8 years old (we're not exactly sure and neither was the shelter) and is the sweetest, gentlest cat ever. He loves belly rubs, ear scratches, playing with his little brother, begging for food, and sleeping.
Fun fact: I'm a huge art buff and I LOVE supporting local artists! One of my favorites is Marquin Designs in Greenville, SC. I've been eyeing one of her abstract paintings for several months, however, cannot choose to spend my money on beautiful artwork at this point in my life :) I couldn't believe I found this similar piece at Home Goods for $25! It's nowhere near as stunning as her work, but it certainly gives the effect I was looking for!
I spend a lot of time at my kitchen table creating content. My usual Saturday spread looks a little something like this (yes, including the mimosa). I bought this Blog Content Planner to force myself to plan my monthly content rather than just wing it, and it's been SO helpful! One of these days I do need to find the ultimate planner for bloggers/full-time businesswomen/yoga teachers (or create one!)...but until then I suppose I'll use a combination of tools :)
Now...you all KNOW I am the queen of coffee drinking. Albert got me a Le Creuset French Press for Christmas, and it is my favorite thing in the world! I use it every day, and it makes me feel super fancy :) Also note that I have an entire section of my kitchen dedicated to coffee making... #sorrynotsorry
My adorable home office doubles as a mini yoga studio! I kept it very bare in here so that I could have space to roll out my mat and prep for classes or practice on my own. In the past I wasn't able to do much yoga at home due to space limitations, so I feel super spoiled to have this room!
Living with a man may mean the end of the girly bedroom era, but it doesn't mean you still can't enjoy creating your sacred sleeping space! I had so much fun picking out neutral tones for our bedroom, and opted to go with maroon, black, beige, browns, and hints of ivory. I'd say it turned out pretty well :)
